Every veteran migraineur has wacky migraine home remedies up their sleeve for that time when theyre caught flatfooted by a migraine episode. You better believe that they will do anything and almost everything just to keep the hounding pain at bay. No matter how diligently you prepare, there comes a time when you will run out of your treasure trove of migraine pills and succumb to less than logical but highly effective migraine first aid.So here you are. Youve had the aura warning. Your head is starting to twitch and you know youre going to have one for sure but youve run out of medicine. What do you do? Stick your head in the freezer? Its not a good idea but the cold job seems to work with a lot of migraine sufferers. Everything from ice packs to frozen towels and ice bags can be used as a cold compress to put on your forehead and under your neck as you lie down. Seeking a cool place? If your bedroom is not the most conducive place in the world, try resting in the bathroom.  If youve got a tub then its better. Do the cold compress routine there. A few minutes nap can work wonders or at the very least take the edge off the pain.If you like it hot, then hot tea and soup may be the way to go. Weve all heard of chicken soup for colds, right but it still hits the right spot if youre a migraineur. This w3orks wonderfully if the trigger for your type of migraine is skipping meals. An empty stomach is a migraine triggers playground. The calming effect of the heat as it expands through your throat and stomach. Plus you get the bonus of getting nutrients into your body that you didnt get when you didnt eat. No sugar rush and crash either. If soup is not available then try tea. Any kind of tea will do but chamomile tea seems to have an edge for its relaxing quality. Keep off the coffee if possible since too much caffeine can give you a rebound headache instead. If youre not used to tea and packing ice around your head and neck seems just too messy for you then take a shower or soak in a hot bath.  In the shower turn the temperature to as hot as you can tolerate then stand under it for 5 minutes. Switch to the coldest setting you can bear then stand for 5 minutes also. If you feel dizzy and cant stand that long then have a nice soak in a tub filled with hot water. If you can tolerate it submerge your head completely under for a few minutes. After a while, you can dry yourself off and have a nap. Dont nap in the water.Got a Q-tip? Dip it in some peppermint oil and apply a little on your temples, your forehead and around your neck keeping away from your eye area so it wont sting. Dont use a lot since its very aromatic. Any mentholated rub will do too as long as you use it sparingly and leave the eye area alone. There are other ways that dont require medicine and while some of the suggestions dont seem to make sense, you can have a choice for inexpensive migraine home remedies.
